HA5 Task 8 - Review

Evaluation

Throughout this project I have had my ups and downs and positive and negatives. But after all it has been a very knowledgeable task, using different types of software etc that will help me further my games design career and will definitely aid me. The hardest part of this unit was the robot sidekick itself. Because i have not had much time in the initial time other students had with the 3D software itself. I managed well to keep up with my work and used my time after class to focus on learning the software and its features. I felt like I did well considering it takes me quite some time to get to grip with the software, both Newteks Layout and Modeller that is, but practise did definitely help me. Because of my slow work ethic lesson times wasn't enough to work on my sidekick robot, so i decided early on to mail my work to myself so i could download it on to my home computer so I can also focus on completing work. Throughout creating the robot itself i felt like it went really well after the assistance of some issues I had initially in the beginning of its creation. Once creating the design pack of my robot i had a very clear idea on what i had initially planning on having my robot look like, which helped immensely to increase my speed on completing this work quickly and efficiently. Making the robot was quite easy then, once I had created  the main point of its body made out of a box, with points dragged and moulded to make its body type and size etc. After that I beveled a polygon off the corner of its body making the top of the shoulder that would be covered in armour. Then I went off the shoulder to bevel downwards to the elbow then to a cut off hand, which wasn't really challenging to create but was teaching me the basics of the software. The way i was creating this robot was by only working on one half of the body, the once creating and finishing the neck, legs, arms on one half, i could mirror the X axis and make a complete flipped version of that. Which helped increase the amount of time i would have to Finnish off other small details. Most of my final robot design was mostly created using the ''Thicken'' and ''Bevel'' tool to create armour plates etc to make it look and feel more robotic. Through the creation progress we also needed to evidence and plan our work using brainstorms, and drawing of our work which will be used to back up our initial work. Also using schedule and production logs which tracked the work we were doing day by day so we could track our progress up to date.

I think my overall work ethic and time management well fairly well and my work standards were good for the amount of effort I put in my work, in and our of class and college times. I think my strengths mostly were that i had knowledge and a clear idea of what i was doing day by day and what had to be done on time. My only negative was my slow start on learning the 3D software which slowed my work progress down a bit, but made me learn more things as I focused even more on it then.
